Clean&Protect® Product background and developments The development of the Clean&Protect® line of products, SaeBoatSkin® is one of them, is fascinating.
During the period of the Cold War the US marine defined a need for non-toxic, environment friendly products against fouling (such as algae growth en barnacles) which could be easily applied to the hulls of submarines. The protection was not allowed to be dangerous to any form of see- and river animals and plants while it had to remove and protect, all kinds of, fouling. After extensive developments and tests a liquid was developed which in principle met the very stringent tests of the US Navy.
Parallel
to these developments an almost identical project was underway which was more of
a high-tech nature and oriented at optical and acoustical surfaces. This project
led, via the navy, food and medical sector, to a product line now known as
CleanSae®
SaeBoatSkin® was initially produced in the USA and exported to Europe and other countries amongst which Australia and Thailand. Worldwide but in Europe especially there is a strong tendency to limit the use of any non-natural product and the negative consequences of that to humans, animals and the environment as a whole. A far reaching development of that is known as the European REACH legislation. It became clear that the Clean&Protect® policy which prescribe that all our (Clean&Protect®) products must meet current and future European legislation was going to conflict with the US import. In 2002/2003 a project was started to develop a European version of the SaeBoatSkin® products. This project has been finalized (see also current MSDS) and the results are even better then the original products. We are very proud that these efforts have also led to the results described in ITM Stockholm University report (March 2005) that SaeBoatSkin® was the only non-toxic alternative amongst many researched products from key antifouling suppliers.
We are continuing the developments of this now proven technology by changing the volume and strength of these components. Thereby SaeBoatSkin® can be used in a continually widening market such as: · The Synthetics industry, where the treatments of synthetic material with a derivative of SaeBoatSkin® provides for a good environment friendly alternative for chemical anti-static products. · The Chemical industry to protect and clean pipes below the waterline. · Speed / Race applications especially for faster and more even sailing a special version has been developed: SaeSpeedSkin® this product works especially very well for speedboats / water skis / rowing / surfing/ and all (water) race sports. |
